Play Time...

Fancy dressing up?
But think you are to old?
Well, not any more... Cristain Dior (couture collection) Autumn/Winter 2011-12 is inspired by your playful childhood costumes. Many of the outfits reassemble clown or bird like costumes. This was the first collection in 50 years that was not over seen by Galliano. Gaytten took on this roles instead, giving creditability back into Dior name.

Influencing fashion even to this day: Madame Grès

Exhibition: Bourdelle Museum in Paris till August 28, 2011

Madam Gres (1903-1993) originally wanted be a sculptor she found working with fabric was similar to stone. Her unique experience with stone and sculptures help her to create the first EVER draped dress; designed in 1934. Throughout the exhibition Madam Gres clothes are displayed in between sculptures which immediately show the similarities in the drapes of the sculpture stone and the dresses fabric.

Day dress - Wool jersey

It so surprising when you think these dresses was made so long ago…they’re just old museum artefacts yet some could easily be worn today! The drapes give such movement and life to them and the brilliance of some of the colour (especially the orange dress) could walk straight out the museum and on to the red carpet.

GFW Nottingham Trent

I have to say that I was not that impressed with the fashion design students I felt I saw it all before, nothing original but the fashion knitwear students were outstanding! The knitwear is bright with an ethic look to it. Ethic seams to be a standard trend these days but I have never seen this trend interacted to knitwear. Therefore, giving the clothes great originality. I also loved Sally Chown necklaces inspired by organic sea like plants growing out of control. Watch out for these designer they are the future!

Bungee Cored - Jump ahead to this latest trend

Forget all the friendship bracelets this summer
this year it all about bungee cords. A designer
called Proenza Shouler started this trend with
her stunning jewellery collection (bracelets
price around $150). However, if that too much
many high street stores are likely to follow.
Also you could always try making one yourself.
You can buy bungee cords from any hardware
store for around £2 a pack. If you do decide to
make a bungee core accessory please email
me as I love the see your designs and I might
upload it to the site. P.S. I will upload mine if
I ever get round to making it, I am such a
procrastinator!

Clashing Prints

Prints are always a hot trend in the summer but this year it all about clashing them. Usually you been advised to avoid clashing different prints as you end up looking like an omoompa loompa. However, with these latest clothes the clashing is done for you. The ethnic and tropical prints are messed up into one single item.  It’s so easy and so stylish!

Guest What? Dr. Martins are doing bags...Yay!

Dr. Martins Spring/Summer 2011 Bag Collection

The satchels are made using the very same classic smooth leather used on a range of Dr. Martens footwear. The satchel is a decent size able to fit a laptop so it actually work usable.  They are strictly limited basis (only 350 bags between all 5 colours) so once they're gone, they're gone. However, I am sure Dr. Martins will resale them but with a slight tweak like the black pumps sold in Mark & Spenser that calm it limited edition and just changes the colour of the soles every time.
